Raid via software

Flexible Configuration Options: Supporting multi-level RAID, the VIA VTA enables end users to configure their hard drives for maximum performance, maximum assurance for critical data security or maximum capacity, while backwards compatible to the Parallel ATA specification, enabling connectivity to the installed base.

Compliant with the Serial ATA specification 1. Featuring simple and practical cabling for improved airflow in the chassis, the VIA VTA enables OEMs and system builders to design smaller chassis, satisfying market demand for smaller and more compact PC systems. The need for these drivers is that they are cheap and so doing all the heavy lifting in software and CPU.

These cards are terrible and need to be actively avoided at all costs. That's a much bigger question :- it really depends on what you want to query. That will tell you most things you need to know about a drive.

Now it depends on the application but I am finding software RAID works just fine in more and more setups. Just stay away from fake RAID ;-. If not, it just sees them all as stand alone drives.

Thank you guys so if I use mdadm to make the raid instead of hardware raid if the OS does die I can safely move the raid to another OS and it will still work?

Yes you can keep array if OS dies. I have done this a few times; and mdadm also stores metadata about the array in its member disks; you sometimes dont even have to do the above to get new os to recognize raid setup with mdadm. Track users' IT needs, easily, and with only the features you need. When it comes to the disadvantages of using this enterprise backup software , there aren't many really. If the system is rebooted after using the hard drive, Paragon may detect all of the files on the drive that were previously undetected and not deleted.

This can result in overwriting your data or corruption of the drive itself. Verdict: With the use of Raid-O technology in the SnapRAID, each block of storage is partitioned off into independent segments, making it easy to make use of large amounts of storage. Each computer on the server will have access to its own slice of the hard drive, instead of relying on the whole server taking up all the space.

This means that if one computer fails, the others can still work. In addition, all data is stored in highly secure Fibre Channel networks, making it impossible for outsiders to access it. In addition, the software is compatible with multi-master NAS units, so it's easy to move files between multiple servers without having to deal with replication.
